Trip to Peloponnese: Wednesday

So the hotels always provide us with breakfast which is a Greek breakfast. The Greeks eat a lot of bread for breakfast they have like normal wheat and white loves and then sometimes a cake bread and they have butter and jam to put on the bread. Then they have yogurt and honey and hard boiled eggs. I guess if you wanted to you could put meat and cheese on the bread but that does not seem appetizing to me in the morning. That's all they eat for breakfast, it is not very filling or healthy.

So we then walked to the Nauplion museum which had some interesting things. The most interesting thing was a suit of Mycenaean armor which was a series of iron pieces that wrapped around the waist and chest.

After the museum we went to Tiryns which is another mycenaean site and one that my professor has excavated and will continue to excavate at so that was pretty cool. This is a good site because a lot of it is still preserved. Everything else is pretty much the same though.

We then went to Epidaurus which has one of the best theaters. The Greeks designed the angles in the theater so that the noise in the seating was minimized and the sound from the actors in the middle of the stage was magnified so you could hear perfectly from the top of the theater. Our professor had us run up the stairs to different locations and had some students stay in the stage area and sing twinkle twinkle little star at different volumes to see if we could hear them. We could hear them even when they were whispering.

The rest of Epidaurus was more temples and another stadium etc.

That night we drove up to the top of the fortress in Nauplion and got some history of the fort which is many forts in one which is confusing. It was used by the Greeks and the Ottoman's and the Turks. The history was not that interesting but the view was amazing. We then had the option of walking down 990 steps to the bottom where our hotel was or we could take the bus. I decided to walk down which was fun but our legs were shaking at the bottom. We saw some people making the walk up which was impressive. That night we did some shopping I was going to get worry beads which are really popular in Greece and are a specialty in Nauplion with entire stores devoted to just worry beads. Worry beads are only really popular with men though so I thought it might look odd if I got them. I did get some nice postcards and then we sat by the water cause there was a really nice sunset before going to get some dinner.
